About Andy

I am Andy Pulsipher and a woodturner. I live and work in Phoenix Arizona and have been self employed as an architect since 1975. I turned my first bowl in 1960 in shop class as a 7th grade student. My second bowl was turned in January of 2015. In that time span of 55 years I became a husband, father, grandfather and managed to grow a successful and ongoing architectural practice. My interests have varied over the years and included flying, travel, development and the fun of  grandparenting.
My business has taken me coast to coast and many places in between. During my years of business travel I was drawn to the native woods each region provided. In hopes of having my own shop one day I began creating a collection of woods that I could eventually use. In 2004 I built a new home with the shop of my dreams and looked forward to enjoying some serious shop time. It wasn’t until 2015 that I screwed up the courage to fire up the lathe that had been sitting in the corner of my shop for 10 years. Since then my passion for creating has blossomed and I now enjoy the challenge of turning my still growing wood collection.
Joining the local Arizona Woodturners Association has been a great learning and inspirational experience. Watching the demonstrations and seeing the work of club members has been instrumental in honing my turning skills. Applying my design skills and creativity to the lathe has resulted a surprisingly rewarding hobby. I’m not sure where this will take me but for now the ride sure is fun!
